Irish Lighthouse

Sleep in an Irish lighthouse. To mark St. Patrick’s Day, here’s an idea for one of the coolest Irish holiday ideas. At the far, northern tip of Ireland, the Fanad Lighthouse has three separate accommodation options, all with stunning views of the North Atlantic on the Wild Atlantic Way in Donegal. Restored in 2015, the Fanad is fully equipped with contemporary furnishings and appliances for a comfortable stay amid a rugged landscape. Built in 1817, the lighthouse is now run by a not-for-profit social enterprise. The nearby Fanad hills and Trá Bán beach make for great walking and hiking. Not far by car, there’s an 18-hole golf course, the picturesque towns of Ramelton and Rathmullan, Doe Castle, Glenveagh National Park, and the Errigal and Muckish mountains. On July 2, join the annual 20km Fanad Coastal Walk/Run event for a true immersion into an Irish community. Combined with the cheap flights to Dublin we’re seeing these days, a stay at the Fanad Lighthouse would make quite the getaway from almost anywhere in Canada.
