Halifax-Florida Cheap Flight Alert

Air Transat has some cheap flights to Florida right now. If spring in the Sunshine State is something you find enticing, or if you wanna run down and check on your winter hangout, check out this cheap flight travel deal.
May departures and returns from Halifax to Fort Lauderdale are going for around $350 cdn, which is half the fare typically considered a good flight deal. I found this flight deal from May 6 to May 13 for $358.75.

If you’re a regular traveler to Florida, you’ll have your own plans for the best use of these Air Transat sale rates. (Just beware, Air Transat can be very sticky about carry on luggage size and weight. I’ve seen passengers charged $100 in the lineup to board a flight!) But here’s my take on one of the best ideas for south Florida fun. It’s an idea that’s not often suggested by tourism sites, travel media or travel agents.
Last spring, I went through Fort Lauderdale to get to the Florida Keys. It’s nearly as close as Miami, and the airport, city and roads are much less congested, making the journey to the start of the Keys just beyond Everglades National Park that much easier and faster.

Here’s a story I wrote about my trip down the 113-mile Overseas Highway that runs the length of the Florida Keys all the way to Key West, the most southerly point in the continental United States. If that trip is something you’re interested in, check out my story for ideas of some really rewarding things to do. It’s called “One Man’s Search for Hope Along the Overseas Highway.”

Hey seafood fans, the Florida Keys are known for local, fresh, delicious seafood. You’ll see fishing boats, wharves, seafood restaurants and stacks of lobster and crab traps everywhere. I wrote an in depth story about one of the favourites, stone crab, for Atlas Obscura. It’s called, “Consider the Stone Crab.” Have a read and give your dinner a deeper think.
